Jekyll Island Ga was once a summer retreat for the rich and famous. However, when the Jekyll Island Club closed, the island was purchased by the state of Georgia in 1947. It was restored and reopened as a luxury resort hotel in 1985. Today, Jekyll Island Club Hotel is a member of Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
